Spring Forward! Workshop

The days are getting a bit longer, the sun is finally starting to peek out from behind the clouds, and the ground beneath us is looking more fertile. And sometimes on warmer days (you know the kind when the bright inviting sun kisses your cheeks?) we at the Dayton Wellness Collective feel giddy in our hearts in anticipation to transition out of winter. If you find yourself yearning to harness the energetic frenzy of spring outside in your garden & inside your own body, come grow with us!

Our Spring Workshop was a five hour workshop with a focus on energizing and reenergizing our minds and bodies through different grounding modalities.

Breathwork Mini Class: Creating your own sunshine

Emily led us in a mini class that touched on breathwork (breath of joy) and how to cultivate positive mental and physiological energy including utilizing mantras, positive self talk, and redefining pleasure. We leaned into personal curiosities, wandering, and daydreaming for this joyful 20 minute mini class

Class taught by Emily Mays MSed, LPCC

Spill The Tea Mini Class

Whether you’re new to the tea party or you’ve been sipping it for awhile, this mini class had a little bit for everyone. We sipped on some fresh herbals and listened to Jamie spill the tea on

  • the history of medicinal herbs and how to source them
  • extracts, infusions, decoctions, tinctures, and how to make them
  • how to create a blend, choosing herbs
  • 5 different spring tea blend examples
  • a brief overview of each herb used and their properties

Intro to an Ayurvedic Spring Class

Earth and Water. The elements of Spring in Ayurveda, the Kapha time of year. The time of renewal, growth, and starting fresh.

Spring is a time for creativity and movement, growing ideas, and starting anew. Flowers begin to bloom, days grow longer, the sun begins to shine, and animals come out of hibernation… (and perhaps your nose begins to sniffle, congestion emerges, and your allergies say hello.) We can open our windows, enjoy walks outside, and reconnect with our passions and loved ones.

We gathered around to listen to Board Certified Ayurvedic Health Counselor, Ashley Paul of Woodland Wellness Ayurveda, as we explored

-The qualities of Spring, their relation to Kapha dosha (what the means), and how to find balance
-A supportive diet for spring and the changes in your microbiome
-Spring cleansing

-Herbs, spices, and energetics
-Self care practices for spring

And what’s a gathering without seasonal food made with love? With additional training in Ayurvedic Nutrition and Culinary Arts, food is Ashley’s love language. Light seasonal snacks using western herbs and Ayurvedic principles along with a seasonal mocktail was provided and enjoyed by all

Permaculture 101

We learned from Permaculture Designer + Homesteader, Lauren Craig, how to boost our annual garden yields organically. Topics discussed included how to prepare an annual garden from scratch, companion planting, season-extension options (for year-round production), organic pest + disease control, cover crops, crop rotation and more!
